Right price

Antimalarials are not provided free by the NHS. The Department of Health guidance states that drugs for malaria prophylaxis may not be reimbursed under the NHS and that private prescription should be used. GPs typically charge from £12 up to £25 for a private antimalarial prescription. This is additional to the price of the antimalarials that the pharmacist will charge you when you give them the private prescription.

Understanding what you will actually have to pay for your antimalarials can be confusing due to the different ways providers present their costs and what is, or isn’t, included. For example: consultation fee, private prescription fee, tablet costs, dispensing fee, postage, etc.
